Want to be a classical hero? Read!

I stumbled across these fun posters from the American Library Association’s celebrity READ campaign.

Xena: Vanquish Ignorance Gabrielle: Share a Story, Share the Legacy Hercules: Conquer Mythology

If you are not familiar with these ancient warriors (from the late 1990’s), consult the all-knowing Wikipedia.

Ah, the memories these posters bring back!

Those were the days! Costume dramas are so serious these days—Rome, Tudors, etc. They're just as unhistorical but without the jokes!

A couple weeks ago, I was walking down a nearby street when a van pulled in front of a house and out jumped the woman who played Aphrodite in those shows. Apparently, she's my neighbor! Stunned, I did a triple-take; she shot me a pitying look and went inside.

Anyway, my neighborhood library still has sun-faded a Yoda “READ” poster on the wall, but that's a much less interesting story. 🙂

Jeff, that's amazing! Does that mean you live on Mount Olympos? Perhaps you were lucky she didn't talk to you. Nothing good ever happens when gods and mortals mix!
