Got An Extra €100,000 In Your Book Budget?

If so, then you may be able to purchase FMR‘s Michelangelo: La Dotta Mano. This exquisitely hand-crafted book on the art of Michelangelo weighs 62 pounds, partly because the cover features a hand-carved, full-size marble bas-relief copy of the Madonna della Scala. It takes 6 months to make each volume, and all of the materials in the book are of the highest quality. The pure cotton pages, which are watermarked with Michelangelo’s
signature, display Aurelio Amendola’s photographs of Michelangelo’s sculptural
masterpieces, as well as other images of his
drawings and frescoes, and commentary by Michelangelo biographer
Giorgio Vasari. The publishers “guarantee” the book to last 500 years, and call the work a provocation to other publishers to produce books that will last. If you live in New York you can see the book at the NYPL until December 8th. Otherwise, the website will have to do.
