The Mother Grandmother Great-Grandmother of All Bloggers

Am I the last person to find out about 95-year old Spanish blogger María Amelia López? Her blog, A mis 95 años (which I think means “to my 95 years”), is a world-wide sensation, generating 350,000 hits from every continent in a matter of months. Here’s the description:

My friends in Internet, today I am 95 years old. My name is Amelia and I was born in Muxía (A Coruña – Spain) on December the 23rd of 1911. Today it’s my birthday and my grandson, who is very stingy, gave me a blog.

Heh. She blogs about anything that occurs to her—war memories, culture, politics, current events, and old people who let themselves go. She is a life-long socialist and Christian, and not afraid to say so. Her blog is in Spanish, but there are some news articles posted in English, so do have a look.

Nah. You're not the last one. That's usually me! 🙂 Thanks for the link–can you imagine blogging at 95! There's someone who moves with the times.

Have you heard of Olive Riley? She's 107 and blogs with the assistance of Mike Rubbo — http://www.allaboutolive.com.au/.

  3. Dorothy W. says:

    Hey — that's awesome!

  4. Stefanie says:

So cool! I love the line about her grandson being stingy!

  5. Sylvia says:

Hmm, is that really Olive blogging or Mike blogging about her? Well, she's 107 so we'll humour her!
I can't even get my dad, who's in his 70's, to get a computer, even though he is an information fiend. I guess it is a little daunting, especially when eyesight is failing. Plus he's even more stingy than María Amelia's grandson!
Do any of you have older parents or grandparents online?

  6. Jill says:

My father has been happily online for a number of years; my mother resisted the idea until she realized online shopping made life much easier!

  7. Stefanie says:

I have an aunt who if close to 80 who likes to surf the web. She doesn't have a blog though. She does things the old fashioned way, she bends the ears of everyone she meets 🙂

  8. Sylvia says:

Jill, I don't know where I'd be without online shopping!
Stefanie: Heh. I guess there is more instant gratification that way. 🙂

My dad (65) is intensely frustrated by laptops/desktops, but he loves web-surfing on his Palm Treo.

  10. Sylvia says:

    That's interesting. Keeping it simple.
