I just watched the American Ballet Theatre’s production of Swan Lake on PBS. Wow. I still haven’t quite recovered. Gillian Murphy is absolutely stunning as Odette/Odile, and Angel Corella is wonderful as Prince Siegfried. Their acting is as good as their dancing—the camera close-ups show them always 100% in character. I have to hand it to Corella for not forgetting to keep dancing while he is supporting his parner. Marcelo Gomes deserves special mention for the way he radiates sex appeal as the evil Von Rothbart. What chaste princess wouldn’t throw herself at him?
