García Márquez: Research

Always utilizing his experience as a journalist, García Márquez did extensive research for One Hundred Years of Solitude, The Autumn of the Patriarch, and The General in His Labyrinth, which required that he read histories of the life of Bolívar. For One Hundred Years of Solitude he has admitted to consulting books on alchemy, navigation, poisons, disease, cookery, home medicines, and Colombia’s civil wars, with the twenty-four volumes of the Encyclopedia Britannica always by his side.
